Selby C. Rains

Associate Attorney

Estate Planning. Taxation. Business Planning. Trust Administration.

My practice exclusively focuses on matters related to business, estate, and tax planning, as well as asset protection and trust and estate administration.

I advise clients regarding efficient wealth transfer and asset protection strategies that range from foundational death and incapacity planning (wills, revocable trusts, and powers of attorney) to complex estate matters surrounding taxation and liability exposure. I work closely with wealth and insurance advisors and tax professionals to deliver comprehensive guidance and an array of legal solutions to meet each client's specific needs.

Prior to joining Loveland & Hurley, PLLC, I practiced at an estate and tax planning firm in Dallas, Texas. I also previously managed the administration of complex estates and numerous multigenerational trusts for ultra-high-net-worth families in Highland Park, Texas.

Education & Experience

I earned my bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, in 2009 and my law degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, in 2016. During law school, I served as a Note and Comment Editor of the American Indian Law Review and as Vice President of the Organization for the Advancement of Women in Law.

Trusted and Practical Legal Advice

It’s risky to assume that you will always be healthy enough to plan for the future. Inadequate preparation will likely cause loss of control over important personal and financial choices, together with delays and increased costs. That is why estate planning, asset protection, and probate law is my entire focus. Estate planning is personal and intimate, and building meaningful and enduring relationships is a pillar of my legal practice. I take the time to understand your individual needs and goals, as well as consult with your key advisors (i.e., financial advisors, CPAs, and insurance agents), to construct comprehensive and practical strategies that meet all of your personal and business estate and tax planning needs. As a former educator and lifelong learner, you will truly feel the difference when you work with me.

Community Involvement & Memberships

I was born and raised in Collin County, Texas, and it's my privilege to support my hometown community. I am a current member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar College (an honorary society of attorneys who value high ethical standards and improved training by attending at least double the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) required by the State Bar of Texas), REPTL, and the Probate, Trusts and Estates and Tax Sections of the Dallas Bar Association and Collin County Bar Association. I am also a member of the Dallas Estate Planning Council, where I currently serve on the Board of Governors and as the chairperson for the Emerging Professionals Committee.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you to create a plan for you and your family's future.
